1.Give yourself a break. Remove yourself from stressful situations by simply declining to participate in them. Does holiday shopping stress you out? Shop online! You can shop for everything from gifts to groceries from the comfort of your own home. Do you feel like you’ve spread yourself too thin? Skip a holiday gathering, or, if you’re hosting, ask friends to bring a simple side or dessert to take some of the weight off your shoulders. Just because you can do it all doesn’t mean you should.
2.Keep moving. Exercise is an excellent way to reduce stress and anxiety. Instead of skipping your workout when you’re short on time, try scheduling it into your day. Keep those endorphins flowing and give yourself a mood boost by taking a brisk walk or making time for your favorite yoga class.
3.Just Breathe. Sometimes the most important thing we do all day is stop and take a breath. When we begin to feel stressed we automatically begin to breathe quick, short breaths which send stress signals to our nervous system and cause more stress and anxiety. Pause a few times throughout the day to take a few deep cleansing breaths to calm your nervous system and center yourself. Your mind and body will thank you for it.
